Cruzeiro PB

Edmundo, a striker born in Itaporanga, finished the 2007 season as the leading scorer of the Campeonato Paraibano Segunda Divisão with ten goals, wearing the blue of Cruzeiro-PB. Promotion for 2008 was followed by an immediate return to the second tier, and by 2013 a single win all season sent them down again.

More than half a century passed before Cruzeiro Esporte Clube — founded on 28 October 1969 at Sítio Cantinho, and named after the club from Belo Horizonte — won a professional trophy of its own. It came in 2023, in the Campeonato Paraibano Terceira Divisão, settled on penalties after Internacional de Santa Rita held the aggregate level.

A year later it was the under-20 side that carried the name further than the first team ever had, going unbeaten through the 2024 Campeonato Paraibano Sub-20 and closing out Serra Branca 3-0 on aggregate. The title earned Cruzeiro-PB its first places in the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior and the Copa do Brasil Sub-20.

Fox of the Sertão, as Cruzeiro is known here, plays in front of 3,500 people at the Estádio José Sobrinho Barros — Zezão to everyone in Itaporanga.
