The record crowd there, 7,378, came on 10 October 1953, when Eastbourne Town faced Hastings United in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round.
The club began life in 1881 as Devonshire Park F.C. and did not become Eastbourne Town until 1971. It is the oldest senior football club in Sussex, and for a stretch around the turn of the twentieth century it treated the Sussex Senior Cup almost as its own, winning it twelve times between 1890 and 1953.
Eric Beardsley gave the club its first taste of representative honour when he was picked for the England amateur team in 1951, and half a century later Yemi Odubade: 70 league goals in 75 appearances between 2001 and 2004.
