Eivissa

Ibiza is better known for its clubs than its handball, but on the island's inland edge, away from the coast, the sport has kept a following since a group of friends set out to preserve it in 1999, starting with a single senior squad of around fifteen players. That squad became Handbol Club Eivissa, and it now stands as the only Balearic side in the División de Honor Plata, the second tier of Spanish handball.

The team plays out of the Polideportivo Insular de Blancadona, and its colours, orange and blue, turn up in the stands each time it faces Handbol Mallorca in the Trofeu Illes Balears. Press and supporters know the club simply as Los de Ibiza; it has never bothered with a mascot or a marketed nickname.

Promotion has come in stages rather than all at once. The club took the 2nd Division Balear in 2001–02 and again the following season, then added the 2nd National Division title for the Balearic Islands in 2007–08. The senior men's team reached 1ª Nacional in 2013–14. Mauricio Basualdo, an Argentine international, is among the names Ibiza has fielded over the years, and Eugenio Tilve now runs the first team.

None of that promotion run would mean much without what feeds it: a youth academy carrying more than 170 players.
