Puerto Sagunto

The handball section grew out of a steelworks: in 1951 Altos Hornos de Vizcaya put a team together in Puerto Sagunto. That backing showed in the results — as Altos Hornos de Vizcaya, the side finished runners-up in the Spanish league in 1967–68 and reached the Copa del Rey final the following year. When the company pulled its support, the team did not fold. On 23 November 1970 it was reorganised as Club Balonmano Puerto Sagunto, a community side carrying on without an industrial patron.

What followed has been a long back-and-forth between the top division and the level below it. Puerto Sagunto were founding members of the Liga ASOBAL in 1959 and stayed among the elite into the early 1970s, but the club's more recent story belongs to the second tier, the División de Honor Plata, which it won in 2009–10 and again in 2022–23, either side of a runners-up finish in 2018–19. The best of the modern top-flight years came in 2012–13, a ninth-place finish that also carried the club to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Matches are played at the Pabellón Municipal de Puerto Sagunto, in front of crowds who know the team as Los Rojiblancos for the red and white they wear. The fixture against BM Benidorm, the Derbi de la Comunitat Valenciana. Among the players who have worn the shirt.
