Energie Cottbus U19

In 1996 the side reached the final of the DFB-Pokal der Junioren and lost 1-6 to VfR Heilbronn; nineteen years later it got there again, this time falling 0-1 to Hertha BSC. Neither run has been repeated, though the team reached the quarter-finals of the A-Junioren Deutsche Meisterschaft in the 2024/25 season.

The under-19 side is part of the youth setup built around FC Energie Cottbus, the senior club founded in Cottbus in 1966. While the first team plays in front of more than 22,000 at the LEAG Energie Stadion, the academy's matches are held at the Lokstadion an der Lipezker Straße, a ground that holds around 5,000.

Leonardo Bittencourt came through this system, joining the academy in 2005 and making his senior debut for Cottbus in 2010, before a career that took him to Borussia Dortmund, Hannover 96, 1. FC Köln, TSG Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen - and eventually back to the club that raised him.
