Eger is a university town in Heves county, and it is the university itself, Eszterházy Károly Catholic University, that gives the city's women's handball club its name and its blue-and-white colours.

The club has spent most of its recent history working back toward where it once played. Relegated from the top flight, NB I, after finishing bottom of the table in 2013–14, it settled into the second-tier NB I/B and rebuilt from there: runners-up in the Eastern Group in 2020–21, champions of the group the following season. Promotion earned back what relegation had cost.

Szár Evelin joined in 2025 from Győri Audi ETO KC. The club has no fixed rival by name; its sharpest games come against the likes of VS Dunakeszi and Érd, teams it has met repeatedly on the way up and down between divisions.

Home games are played at the Leányka Utcai Sportcsarnok, a hall on Leányka utca that holds around 300 spectators.
