Etoile de l'Est

Etoile de l'Est spent last season back in the Rwanda National Soccer League after climbing out of the second tier, only to drop straight down again in 2023–24. The club now sits in the second division once more.

The Ngoma side did not start life under this name. Founded in 1989 as Birenga Sport, the club took its current identity in 1997, when Colonel Twahirwa Dodo, then commanding army units in the district, backed the team and it was renamed Etoile de l'Est. Promotion finally arriving in 2021 after a penalty shoot-out win over Amagaju FC in the play-offs.

Home games are played at Stade ya Ngoma in Kibungo, built by the China Road and Bridge Corporation and opened in 2020. Its 3,500 seats are supplemented by standing room for roughly 2,000 more.

The 2022–23 second division title, won alongside Amagaju FC, set up that first promotion push. There is no nickname beyond the name itself, though locally the team is sometimes called Ikipe y'Akarere ka Ngoma — the team of Ngoma District.

For now, Etoile de l'Est plays in the second division.
