Granville

Football arrived in Granville through a multisport club, and it took a section of its own only in 1909, under the banner of Union Sportive Granvillaise. The name did not hold: within a decade the club had been called Stade Granvillais, then, in 1918, Stade Granvillais Athlétique Club, before the founders' original choice was restored in 1928. A committee revived the football side again in 1933 and took it into the French Football Federation the following year.

None of that instability shows in what Les Granvillais have gone on to win, all of it regional: the Championnat d'Honneur de Normandie in 1969, and the Coupe de Basse-Normandie. A national title has never come, and the club's name has travelled instead through the Coupe de France, where a run to the quarter-finals in 2016 ended only at the hands of Olympique de Marseille.

Home matches are watched from the Stade Louis-Dior, holding some 3,200 spectators, by a support still known locally as les Blanc et Bleu after the club's colours. What began as one section of a small-town sports club is the identity that has carried Granville this far.
