Korneuburg Union Women

Long before results made anyone outside Lower Austria pay attention, women's handball at Union Korneuburg grew out of the town's parent sports club, Union Korneuburg, as its own dedicated section.

That pattern shows in Johanna Schindler, who spent from 2001 to 2016 in Korneuburg before going on to Frisch Auf Göppingen and Hypo Niederösterreich and collecting 73 caps for Austria, and in Johanna Reichert, who left in 2020 after twelve seasons and was later named Austrian Handballer of the Year before being voted MVP of the EHF European League in 2025.

One result stands apart from the rest. On 22 November 2015, Korneuburg beat Hypo Niederösterreich 26-24 — Hypo's first league defeat since March 1993, ending a run of 384 games without a loss. The club's own peak followed a few years later: the WHA Meisterliga title in 2020/21, the one season in which Korneuburg also went on to reach the final of the Austrian Cup, losing there to the same Hypo Niederösterreich side, as they had done in the 2012/13 final as well.

Matches are played at the Franz Guggenberger Halle, in front of no more than 700 people. Alexandra Klammer topped the WHA scoring charts in 2023/24.
