Union St. Pölten Women

Union St. Pölten's women play in the WHA Meisterliga, the top flight of Austrian handball, a level they returned to after winning the WHA Challenge in 2023. The route back was earned rather than gifted: the club builds its squad on players developed in its own youth system, an approach it calls Eigenbau, rather than recruiting them in from outside.

The women's section traces to 1987, when the team first competed in the top division, and became an independent branch of Sportunion St. Pölten two years later, in 1989 — the parent body itself dates to 1945. State honours followed at intervals rather than in a run: the Lower Austrian championship in 1992, then again in 2014 and 2015. The closest the club has come to a national trophy was 2018, when it reached the ÖHB Cup final and lost 27:26 to UHC Müllner Bau Stockerau, a result that nonetheless sent it into the EHF Challenge Cup.

Stockerau remains the fixture that matters most, along with U. heinekingmedia Korneuburg; games against either are billed locally as the NÖ-Derbys. The rivalry has produced tight finishes rather than routs — a 32:31 win over Korneuburg in February 2025 was decided by a single goal. Lisa Felsberger, the club's playmaker and leading scorer for several seasons, left for Germany's 2. Bundesliga in 2019; Ulrike Parzer, a wing player of longer standing, has since moved into coaching the club's youth ranks.

Home games are played at the Prandtauerhalle, which holds 500.
