KPR Żukowo

Tytani Wejherowo and Sambor Tczew give Żukowo the closest thing it has to enemies, both regional sides drawn from the same corner of Pomerania.

The handball section grew inside GKS Żukowo, a multi-sport club, entering the Second League in the 2011/12 season after several years of building up the side from 2008. Sponsors have rewritten its name more than once since — GKS Żukowo, then SPR GKS Autoinwest Żukowo, KPR Autoinwest Żukowo, now KPR Fit Dieta Żukowo — while on the court people still call the players Żukowianie.

Promotion to the newly formed Liga Centralna arrived for the 2021/2022 season, and a sixth-place finish in that first campaign gave the club a foothold rather than a statement. The statement came in 2023/2024, when Żukowo took bronze in the league, its first senior medal at that level. A cooperation agreement with Orlen Wisła Płock has since brought players such as Szymon Maćkowiak and Mikita Baranou to the town, a pipeline that sits oddly with a club still playing in front of roughly 200 seats.

Those seats are new: the Hala Widowiskowo-Sportowa, built onto the local school complex on Armii Krajowej street, opened in January 2024.

Dariusz Tomaszewski took over as head coach for the 2024/2025 season.

Whatever Żukowo has built shows itself most clearly against Wejherowo and Tczew.
