«Monarchs»
The London Monarchs opened Wembley in the World League of American Football, and 61,103 people turned up for World Bowl I that year to watch them beat the Barcelona Dragons 21–0. By 1995 it had left for the tighter confines of White Hart Lane, then Stamford Bridge two years later.
World Bowl I remained the Monarchs' single championship through the rest of their existence, a result made under Larry Kennan, whose work that year earned him Coach of the Year honours.
By 1998 the team had been renamed the England Monarchs and scattered its home games across smaller grounds — Crystal Palace, Ashton Gate, Alexander Stadium — venues holding a fraction of what Wembley once did. The league folded the club that year, and its place passed to the Berlin Thunder in 1999.
