Montego Bay United

Montego Bay United go into each Jamaica Premier League season carrying the weight of a name change that supporters still measure against what came before. The club now plays out of Jarrett Park rather than its own Catherine Hall Sports Complex, ground that Hurricane Melissa left too damaged to host matches, so home fixtures have shifted to a venue the team already knew well: it served as its base from 1972 until 2013.

The badge Montego Bay United wears now dates only to July 2011, when Orville Powell bought the franchise and renamed it to represent the city rather than the team that had built its history. That earlier team was Seba United, and the nickname has outlasted every rebrand since; in July 2024 the club went further, dropping its long-standing green and blue for crimson red and forest green specifically to honour the Seba years.

Four Jamaica Premier League titles sit in the club's history, won in 1986–87, 1996–97, 2013–14 and 2015–16, spaced widely enough that no single generation of players can claim them all. Stephen Malcolm's number 2 shirt was retired in 2011. Relegation has struck twice, in 2007–08 and again in 2018–19, and each time the rebuilding fell to a club already accustomed to starting over. Against Mount Pleasant, in the North Coast Derby, that history carries an edge no league table fully explains.

Before any of that, in 1972, the club began life simply as Beacon FC, a name it held only briefly before Seba United took its place.
