Northern City

Ibrahim Mohammed was the difference on the day Northern City beat Wa Suntaa SC 3-0, the central defender picking up the match ball as its most valuable player. It is a small enough episode, but it captures how a club from Tamale, in Ghana's Northern Region, has built its results: with Mohammed Abdallah and Evan Abongo both getting on the scoresheet that afternoon.

The club carries a formal bond with the Nayiri Palace of the Mampurugu Kingdom, paying respects to the traditional ruler, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II.

Northern City play in yellow and blue, with Beana supplying the kit from the 2025-26 season, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, also known locally as Tamale Stadium. The ground has hosted the club through leaner spells too: relegation to the Division Two League followed the 2023/2024 campaign, when 32 points from 28 matches were not enough to stay up. Forward Osman Zakaria has since moved on, joining FC Samartex.

None of this has yet produced a national trophy, and the club has built its identity instead around the north itself.
