Oissel

Oissel sits on the Seine south of Rouen, an industrial commune whose football club has spent most of a century tied to the Rouen conurbation's third team of note. What is now CMS Oissel grew out of the Club Athlétique d'Oissel, formed on 18 July 1920; a reorganisation in 1968 gave the club its current name, and that later date is the one the club itself cites as its founding year.

Success has stayed regional rather than national. CMS Oissel took the Division d'Honneur Normandie three times, in 1992, 1994 and 2000, before a longer wait for anything comparable: the Normandy group of National 3 in 2017-18, which sent the club up to National 2 for the first time. A Coupe de Normandie followed in 2008, after runners-up finishes in earlier years.

The club's reputation rests less on trophies than on what it has sent elsewhere. Oissel is known in the region as a training ground, and its academy has put out professionals who went on to full international careers, Yassine Benzia with Algeria and Fayçal Fajr with Morocco among them.

Home games are watched at the Stade Marcel Billard, in front of blue and white shirts that earned the club its nickname, Les P'tits bleus. National 2, Group D, is where that history now plays out, a level the club has held since going up in 2018.

Derby weekends in Oissel mean Rouen. Matches against FC Rouen and against Quevilly-Rouen Métropole carry the weight of the "derby normand," the fixture through which a club from a town of some 12,000 measures itself against the city on its doorstep.
