«Profs»
Glassboro sits in Gloucester County, and it is that campus, not the town, that gives the football team its name: Profs, short for "Professional Owls," the mascot chosen when the school was still Glassboro State Normal School in 1923.
The program dates to 1947 and plays at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium, on John Page Memorial Field. It competes in NCAA Division III, mostly within the New Jersey Athletic Conference, and has taken the conference title fourteen times since 1983, on top of five earlier championships in the old New Jersey State Athletic Conference during the 1970s.
Under K.C. The nearest they came was 1999: in the semi-final they beat Mount Union, who arrived on a 54-game winning streak, 24–17 in overtime, only to be beaten in the final by Pacific Lutheran, 42–13.
Brian Dawkins, later a Pro Football Hall of Fame safety, came through the university, and running back Dino Hall went on to play for the Cleveland Browns.
