Ruch Chorzow Ii Women

Chorzów's multi-sport club Ruch set up a women's handball section in 1951, and what grew from it went on to define an entire era of the game in Poland. Between 1959 and 1984 the first team took nine Polish Championships and five Polish Cups, and in the 1977/78 season it reached the semi-finals of the European Cup. KPR Ruch Chorzów II carries that name into the lower divisions today, competing in the II Liga or III Liga and regularly finishing among the top sides chasing promotion.

The reserves train and play out of Hala MORiS on ulica Dąbrowskiego, a hall that holds 1,100 for handball. Games against SPR Sośnica Gliwice are billed as the Silesian Derby, the fixture that still carries the sharpest edge for supporters of the Blues.

Monika Ciesiółka came up through the club as a goalkeeper before the reserve side became a proving ground in its own right, one that has since sent players through to the senior team and, from there, into the Polish national setup.

Nine championships in twenty-five years is the number the club still measures itself against.
