The A5 runs straight between Tamworth and Nuneaton, and the football fixture that shares the road's name still carries the sharpest edge on the fixture list. Burton Albion, Atherstone Town, Bedworth United and Boldmere St Michaels fill out the rest of the local grudges, but none of them get a nickname for a derby.

The Lambs draw their name from The Lamb Ground itself, and from the pub next door, The Lamb Inn — a lamb sat on the club crest through the 1950s. The ground has stood on Kettlebrook since 1934, expanded over the decades rather than rebuilt: the main stand went up in 1997, a 3G pitch replaced grass in 2016, and floodlight towers were swapped for LED in 2020. It now holds 4,963, with 518 of those seated.

Tamworth's best-remembered season came in 1988–89, when the club won the FA Vase, beating Sudbury Town in the final. A run to the FA Trophy final followed in 2002–03, ending in defeat to Burscough. The honours since have mostly come from the divisions below the National League: Southern League titles either side of the millennium, a Conference North championship in 2008–09, then Southern League Premier Central in 2022–23 and National League North the year after, in 2023–24 — back-to-back promotions that lifted the club higher than it had sat in years.

Ownership changed hands on 16 June 2026, when American businessman Abdullah Ashraf bought the club and took over as chairman, installing Scott Ricardis as chief executive. Andy Peaks stayed on as manager. The club still plays in red shirts and black shorts, colours it has carried since 1933, the year it was founded in the town whose name it bears.
