«Tartans»
Sixteen Presidents' Athletic Conference titles sit behind the Tartans, evidence of a program that has rarely gone long without a conference to defend.
Carnegie Mellon fielded a football team from 1906, and the program's clearest measure of how far it once reached is a single result: a 19-0 win over Notre Dame in 1926. What followed took much longer to shake off. Between 1942 and 1948 the Tartans lost 26 games in a row, a stretch the postwar program spent years working back from before conference titles became a regular habit again.
The rivalry with Case Western Reserve, contested as the Academic Bowl, reflects what the two schools are beyond the field as much as what happens on it, and it has outlasted an older rivalry with Washington & Jefferson.
What the record does not include is anything beyond Division III.
