Warren Moon threw for more yards in Houston than any passer in franchise history before Steve McNair ever put on the uniform. The Oilers took the field in 1960 under Bud Adams as one of the American Football League's founding teams, and by 1961 they had already won back-to-back league titles.
The Tennessee move in 1997 came with an odd interlude — a season in Memphis under the Oilers name before Nashville took over and the Titans name arrived in 1999. That same year the team reached its only Super Bowl.
Nissan Stadium holds just over 69,000 for Titans games, and the navy and Titans Blue on the field trace back to a franchise built on division titles more than championships — AFC Central crowns in the early 1990s, AFC South titles more recently, division success that has rarely converted into the deeper runs the 1999 team managed. The Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, and Houston Texans have supplied the sharpest rivalries, games where recent form counts for little once the whistle goes.
No player is tied to the club more tightly than Derrick Henry, whose seasons of carrying the ball more than anyone else in the league became the identity fans point to first when asked what the Titans are.
