UHC Stockerau Women

The UHC dates its existence to 1946.

For decades the women's side worked in the shadow of the men's team, which took the Austrian league in 1986 and the cup three times running from 1988. The women needed until the mid-2000s to become regulars in the top flight, the WHA, and their own breakthrough came only in 2017/18: a 27-26 win over Union St. Pölten in the final gave Stockerau its first ÖHB-Cup, and in the same season the team finished as runners-up in the league behind Hypo Niederösterreich. The cup put them into the EHF European Cup that autumn, where the run stopped in the first round. A second final followed in 2022, again lost.

The Sporthalle Alte Au, where the team still trains and plays, has staged both of those cup campaigns without ever growing much beyond a local ground. Green and black remain the club's colours, and the derby that matters most in Stockerau is not against the capital's big names but against the other clubs of Lower Austria — Korneuburg, Tulln, St. Pölten — fixtures the region calls the NÖ-Derby.

Coach Karsten Schneider is the name attached to the 2018 title, though the players who beat St. Pölten that night have largely gone unrecorded outside the result itself. What Stockerau has not managed, in either of its two cup finals, is the league title that would put the women's side level with the men's best years.
