Varenos

Before he lifted the EuroBasket trophy with the Lithuanian national basketball team in 2003, Dainius Šalenga trained in the yellow and blue of Varėnos Ūla's youth handball section.

Ūla was set up in 1991 on the initiative of V. Mikalauskas, and its men's team joined the Lietuvos Lyga two years later. The senior team has never taken the Lithuanian championship: runners-up in 1995 and 2004, third in 2002 and 2005. What the club does have is a cup double from 2014, when it won both the Lithuanian Cup and the Lithuanian Supercup in the same season.

Matches against Alytaus Varsa are known locally as the Dzūkijos derbis. Ūla plays at the Varėnos sporto centras.

In 2024 the club won the Lithuanian First League, its most recent title, with goalkeeper Erikas Kaupinis — named best player of the 2023 First League Final Four.
