Virovitica Women

Under the name Tvin, Virovitica's handball club took the Yugoslav Championship twice, in 1955 and 1958, and before that had already claimed the SR Croatia title six times between 1952 and 1972. That run through the 1950s and 1960s marked the club as one of the stronger sides in Yugoslav women's handball, followed by three lost Croatian Cup finals in a row, in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

The club traces back to 1949 and passed through the names Drvodjelac, Lokomotiva and Mladost before settling on Tvin in 1974.

Maja Kožnjak came through at Tvin before her move to Podravka Koprivnica and the Croatian national team, and Koprivnica's club, ŽRK Podravka Vegeta, remains the side most associated with Virovitica as a rival, even without a fixed name for the fixture.

The team plays in black and white at the Tehnička škola hall, which holds 1,600. A separate club, ŽRK 1234 Virovitica, was set up in the city in 2010 and now competes in the 1. HRL Women, carrying the city's handball tradition forward without yet having added to what Tvin won decades earlier.
