The Pavillon des Sports in Geneva is defined by its dual life.
The Lions de Genève have established the venue as their home in the Swiss Basketball League (SBL), though the parquet floor is equally suited to handball and fencing. The complex was created in the 1940s, and by November 1954 it was already hosting significant events, including the first artificial ice hockey match in Geneva between Servette HC and Urania Genève Sport. It also served as a major venue for boxing in the 1950s, hosting world title fights involving Alphonse Halimi and Tiberio Mitri.
The space has always been defined by its versatility.
The arena is now facing a transformation. In late 2025, the City of Geneva voted to fund studies for a complete refit, with plans to demolish the current pavilion due to its dilapidated state and replace it with a new facility including an Olympic-sized pool.
