Sri Lanka saw off Seychelles 3-0 in a friendly international in Victoria on Saturday. The visitors took control with Adhavan Rajamohan's penalty just before half-time and never looked back. The result extends a difficult run for the hosts, who have not won since their last international fixture.
To be fair, the opening goal came at a crucial moment. Rajamohan converted from the spot in the 45th minute plus two, giving Sri Lanka a lead they would not surrender. The hosts had 55 per cent of possession but could not find a way through.
By then, Sri Lanka had settled into their rhythm. Rajamohan added a second in the 52nd minute, capitalising on defensive hesitation. Seychelles responded with urgency but their shots went astray — seven on target against six for the visitors tells the story.
Dillon De Silva made it three in the 76th minute, closing out what had become a straightforward afternoon for Sri Lanka. The hosts picked up five yellow cards as frustration mounted. The clean-sheet run came to an end for Seychelles, but the scoreline reflected a wider problem.
Seychelles dominated possession at 55 per cent but their seven shots on target yielded nothing compared to Sri Lanka's six. The visitors were more clinical, converting three attempts into goals. Seven corners to two suggested the hosts pressed forward, but the final ball was lacking.
Sri Lanka's performance follows mixed results recently, including a 4-1 win over Bhutan in June. Seychelles have endured a difficult period, with heavy defeats to Gambia and Ivory Coast in October 2025. This friendly offered little comfort for the hosts.
