About the player
Iano Simão made his name as a scoring left-back in the reserve side of Deportivo La Coruña. Over two and a half seasons with Deportivo La Coruña II, known as Fabril, he played 70 matches and scored nine goals. He stayed with the senior squad until 2025.
He began at Sport Bissau e Benfica in his home city, with two appearances in 2017–18, then moved to Portugal. At Limianos he played 27 times and scored four goals. At CDC Montalegre the return was sharper: seven goals in 20 appearances. From there he crossed into Spain and joined CD Choco for the 2020–21 season, before Deportivo took him on.
In July 2025 he signed for Penafiel on a contract running to 30 June 2027. Back in Portugal, he has made 25 appearances for the club and scored once.
He plays internationally for Guinea-Bissau. His first appearance in the starting line-up came in a 2022 World Cup qualifier against Guinea in November 2021. He was in the starting eleven again on 4 September 2025, against Sierra Leone in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
