About the player
Madiodio Dia made his move on 2 February 2026, when Portsmouth signed the Senegalese player from the Norwegian club FK Haugesund. Portsmouth did not disclose the fee.
Dia, who is sometimes called "Jojo", started his senior career in Senegal with ASCE La Linguère, where he played from 2022 until the summer of 2023. Haugesund then signed him in August 2023 on a three-year contract. Some reports put the fee at around €50,000.
His route into the first team in Norway was gradual. In 2024 he played for the reserve side, Haugesund 2, and spent a loan spell at Egersunds IK to gain experience. By 2025 he was established in Haugesund's Eliteserien side. His Sofascore rating of 7.14 that season was the highest of anyone at the club.
He was born in Saint-Louis, Senegal, and is eligible to play for his country. He had not won a senior cap for Senegal as of 2025.
The Portsmouth deal ended a stay of more than two years with Haugesund, and the move was reported by Senegalese media as well as on the club's own website.
