About the player
Samy's most important goal for Portimonense came in his first season. His strike on 17 May 2026 was decisive in securing the club's survival in Liga Portugal 2.
The centre-back, whose full name is Samuel Neves Bengui, is a native of Luanda. He moved from Angola to Portugal in July 2025, joining on a free transfer from FC Bravos do Maquis. The move went through on 8 July. He signed a contract until 30 June 2027, with an option for an additional year.
He made 19 appearances in Liga Portugal 2 in 2025/26, his debut season with the club. A left-footed defender, he was part of a side that had to wait until the spring to know it would stay up.
His previous season was spent in Angola's Girabola with Bravos do Maquis, in 2024/25. He made two league appearances there. The club's run in the CAF Confederations Cup gave him six more games, this time at continental level. His earlier spell at Santa Rita CFC came in 2020/21.
Samy has not yet played for Angola's senior side.
