Sander Christiansen

Sander Christiansen left Norway for Germany at 17 and came back four years later without a first-team appearance for the club that signed him. That path defines his career so far.

He started out at Loddefjord IL in Bergen before moving to SK Brann, where he stayed until 2018. In June of that year Borussia Mönchengladbach brought him into their academy. Brann received only training compensation for him, a fee set by the player's age and development rather than a transfer sum in the usual sense.

The German years ran from 2018 to 2022. He spent two of them in the academy and then moved up to Borussia Mönchengladbach II, the reserve side, who play in the Regionalliga. He was in that league from 2020 to 2022. The senior Gladbach side never gave him a game.

His international record is at youth level. Christiansen played for Norway at U15, U16, U17 and U18. In 2018 he won 12 caps for the U17s, and in 2019 he added five for the U18s. He was also part of the U19 squad but did not add to his caps there, as he grew out of the youth age groups. He has not played for the senior national team.

On 11 August 2022 he signed for Sarpsborg 08 on a free transfer, ending his time in Germany.
