About the player
Zhifeng Wang came through the Wuhan academy system before signing his first senior contract with Wuhan Zall, later renamed Wuhan Yangtze River FC, making his top-flight debut against Beijing Guoan. The club folded amid financial difficulties in January 2023, a collapse that ended his time there and sent him looking for a new home. He signed with Changchun Yatai as a free agent that April, and last season made 19 appearances for the club.
Wang moved on again at the start of this year, joining Yunnan Yukun. He has already given the club moments to remember: in a Round of 16 tie in the FA Cup against Chengdu Rongcheng he saved a penalty, and he has kept a clean sheet against Shanghai Shenhua.
He has not been capped by the Chinese national side. One agency report had placed him in the Shandong Taishan squad that won the 2021 Chinese FA Cup, but that claim did not hold up — there is no record of him having played for the club, and it appears to have been a mix-up rather than a forgotten chapter of his career.
