Al Kharaitiyat

The North Derby against Al Khor SC gives Al Kharaitiyat its sharpest rivalry. Al Shamal SC provides the other regular grudge match.

The club did not start life under its current name. Founded in 1996 as Al-Hilal, it was renamed Al Kharaitiyat on 19 October 2004, a decision made by the vice-president of the Qatar Olympic Committee to give the club a name that better reflected the district it represented.

Silverware has come in the lower tiers rather than at the top of Qatari football. Al Kharaitiyat have won the Qatari Second Division twice, in 2004 and 2020, and reached the final of the Emir Cup in 2012, finishing runners-up. The Qatar Stars League title has stayed out of reach.

Pejman Montazeri, another capped Iranian defender, followed in 2019.
