Abdoulaye Soulama learned to keep goal at USCO, back when the club still carried the name Union Sportive des Meuniers de Banfora, and he carried that start all the way to five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments for Burkina Faso, including a fourth-place finish in 1998 and the final in 2013. He died in 2017.

That final ended in defeat, 1–0 to AS Douanes.

In Banfora, USCO plays in yellow shirts and blue shorts at the Stade Banfora, capacity 6,000, backed by the bus company SOGEBAF and known to supporters as Les Lunionistes. The sharpest fixture is the Derby des Cascades against Sporting FC of Bobo-Dioulasso, the other club representing the Cascades region; USCO took the most recent meeting 1–0 in February 2025. Games against ASFA-Yennenga and Réal du Faso carry their own weight, though nothing has matched January 2021, when a match against Union Sportive du Yatenga was abandoned in the 46th minute after home supporters went onto the pitch and assaulted players, drawing a five-match home ban.

Soulama remains the name attached to the club before any other.
