In 2003/04, Den Bosch won the Eerste Divisie outright, only to meet FC Groningen in the promotion play-off final and lose 2–1.

The club traces back to 18 August 1965, when the professional wing of BVV broke away from the amateur game. Two years later Wilhelmina's own professional section joined in, and the merged side briefly carried the name FC Den Bosch'67 before settling, in 1992, on the name it still carries. The professional club itself never stopped playing through any of it.

Home games are played at De Vliert, which holds 6,936. The nickname Blue White Dragons echoes the kit — a blue shirt with a white chest band, white shorts, blue socks. On the pitch, the fixture that matters most is the one against TOP Oss, a short trip across 's-Hertogenbosch's own province that locals call the Brabants onderonsje; Willem II and FC Eindhoven come up too, but with nothing like the same regularity.

No name from the academy carries further than Ruud van Nistelrooy's. Between the posts, it was Jan van Grinsven who stayed longest — 415 appearances.
