Lechia Dzierżoniów

Two merged clubs make a third: that is how Lechia Dzierżoniów got its name. On the night of 5-6 December 1955, TKS Sparta Dzierżoniów and Stal Dzierżoniów agreed to become one club, and Kazimierz Michalski proposed calling it Lechia. Sparta gave up its yellow and red, Stal its yellow and blue, and the combination stuck as three colours on one badge, drawn by Adam Piech in early 1956.

The club's ceiling has stayed low and consistent: ninth place in the II Liga in the 1993/1994 season remains its best finish, and two Lower Silesian Cup wins, in 1990/1991 and again in 2006/2007, sit either side of that peak. Krzysztof Piątek came through the academy between 2006 and 2011 before his move brought him to AC Milan; Patryk Klimala followed a similar path out through Legia Warsaw and on to Celtic. The transfers still bring the club solidarity payments years on.

Relegation from the III Liga in 2018/2019 pushed Lechia down to the fourth tier, where it has since won its group twice, in 2020/2021 and 2021/2022, without turning either title into promotion through the playoffs. The team plays at the Jerzy Michałowicz Stadium, modernised in 2023 with new seating, lighting and pitch, in front of a capacity of 4,500. Marcin Orłowski has coached the side since taking over from Paweł Sibik, and the derby against Bielawianka Bielawa still carries more weight locally than the table does. For now, Lechia's task is the one it has faced since the playoff defeats: finding a way back up from the IV Liga.
