Madalena arrives at this season having just completed a first for the club: a fifth AF Horta Championship, won in 2025-26, followed by the Supertaça Dr. Manuel Faria de Castro in 2026.
The club was formed on 1 June 1974 and has played ever since in blue and garnet. In the Taça de Portugal, the furthest Madalena has gone is the second round, reached in 2002-03 and again in 2006-07, when Vasco da Gama beat them 0-2.
A handful of players have used Madalena as a step up rather than a destination. Demba Jassi and João Frazão both left to play in Liga Portugal 2, part of a line that also includes Rui César, Hugo Soares and Gualter Bilro — none of whom went on to the Primeira Liga, but all of whom made the jump the club is best known for producing.
