Örebro Syrianska

Örebro Syrianska sit in Ettan Norra, the third tier. Promotion has come in stages, one division at a time, most recently out of Division 2 Norra Götaland in 2019.

The club grew out of Örebro's Syriac-Aramean community in 1977, formed a few months ahead of Syrianska FC Södertälje and recognised as the first club of its kind in Sweden. It did not enter the official league system until 1986, and from there worked through the bottom divisions the slow way: Division 6 in 1999, Division 5 the year after, Division 4 in 2006, Division 3 in 2014. Each title meant one more rung, never two.

Mellringe IP still carries the memory of a different name — it was known as Örnsro IP until 2020 — and its spectator area holds 700. The Syrianska Cup run of 1989 drew a crowd of 2,375, still the club's largest, for a run that ended in the quarter-finals.

Barsaum Cicek now manages a squad built around Linus Lamu up front and Edgar Sarkis Navassardian among the division's top scorers.

Derby day means Karlslunds IF, the Örebroderby.
