Jönköpings Södra

Since 2023, when Jönköpings Södra went down from Superettan, the club has played in Ettan Södra, the third tier of Swedish football. It is a long way from 2015, when J-Södra won Superettan and went up. That stay in the top flight lasted two seasons, and the club was relegated again in 2017. Their history since the 1940s has run in the same up-and-down pattern: promoted in 1944–45, down a year later, up again in 1946–47, down in 1954.

The high point came in between. In 1949–50 they finished second in the Allsvenskan, behind Malmö FF. It remains their best finish, and the Svenska Cupen has never come their way.

The green and white came by accident of purchasing. The club played in blue and black until 1923, when it bought shirts from a German company and stayed with the colour. The supporters call themselves Gröna Maskinerna, the Green Machine. Husqvarna FF are the main rivals in the Jönköpingsderbyt, and J-Södra beat them 8–1 in 1987.

More recently, the academy produced Dino Putsén, who moved to Inter Milan in 2024. Stadsparksvallen, rebuilt between 2020 and 2022, now holds 7,300.

The name people in Jönköping return to is Arne Selmosson. He played up front for the club in the early 1950s, then went to Italy and turned out for Udinese, Lazio and Roma. In 1958 he won a World Cup silver medal with Sweden.
