Paraense SC

Parauapebas grew up around iron ore, and Clube Atlético Paraense arrived to build a second front. Founded on 19 August 2002, it did not reach the regional Second Division until 2018, becoming the first club to carry the city's name there, and it settled for years among the also-rans, with three eighth-place finishes its best return.

The breakthrough came in 2025, in the third tier rather than the second. Paraense beat Santos Athletico in the Campeonato Paraense Série A3 final, a goalless tie on aggregate settled 4–1 on penalties, and took the club's first honour. Rafael Lopes Ferreira, the club's president since 2014, had played professionally himself, part of the São Paulo squad that won the Brazilian championship in 2008 before spells at Fortaleza, Atlético Paranaense and Águia de Marabá. He has pointed to the academy as the project's real output, 56 players released since the club's founding, a pipeline that has sent names like Pedro Henrique and Léo Tutum through the ranks.

Derby day still means Paraense against Parauapebas FC, the 'Trem de Ferro' against the 'Tricolor do Norte', two clubs sharing one ground and one city's loyalty. The matches are played at the Rosenão, the Estádio José Raimundo Roseno Araújo, which holds 10,000 and belongs to neither side outright.
