The Eagles secured a 31:24 victory over the Shanticleers in the NFL regular-season on Saturday night. It ended a run of three straight defeats for the visitors who had not tasted success since their 31:0 win over the Buccaneers on 5 September.
The Shanticleers suffered their third consecutive loss, having dropped 24:31 to the Mountainers, 14:22 to the Fighting Blue Hens and 17:34 to the Flames in the preceding weeks. Their only win in that span came against the Rams on 12 September.
The Eagles had struggled in recent outings, losing 28:42 to the Cougars on 26 September and 27:31 to the Gamecocks on 19 September. They had also fallen to the Tigers on 13 September before that run of defeats.
By then the Eagles had picked up two bookings in five minutes of their own struggles, but this time they held their nerve when it mattered. The away end never stopped, and the result means they fancy their chances of climbing away from the bottom of the table.
The Shanticleers have hit a wall of late, and one mistake ends it when you are playing this way. They had nothing to do all evening in terms of momentum, and the line has barely moved for them.
The score was tight enough to suggest a competitive game, but the Eagles took their chances. The Shanticleers were left flat-footed for much of the evening, and it showed on the final tally.
