The Cornhuskers completed a commanding 48-23 victory over the Terrapins in their regular-season NFL clash on Saturday evening. The result extended the home side's momentum while the visitors suffered another heavy defeat, dropping further behind in the division standings.
There was little surprise in the outcome when you look at the recent trajectory of both sides. The Cornhuskers had built an impressive run of form, winning their previous four matches by margins of 18, 27, 49 and 28 points respectively. Against the Spartans, Fighting Hawks, Falcons and Bobcats they showed no signs of slowing down.
The Terrapins arrived with a more fractured record. They had endured a humiliating 54-3 loss to the Bruins the week before, followed by a narrow 35-26 defeat to the Hawkeyes. But they had also posted a 62-0 win over the Pirates, suggesting their results could swing either way depending on the opposition.
Against the Cornhuskers there was no swing to be had. The visitors were overwhelmed from the opening whistle, unable to contain the home attack or generate meaningful pressure on their own offence. By then the pattern was clear — this was not going to be a contest.
The result moves the Cornhuskers further clear at the top of their division, while the Terrapins find themselves in danger of falling out of playoff contention entirely. Four defeats in five games leaves them with very little room for error going forward.
