The Marauders suffered a heavy 10:70 defeat to The Rock in regular-season action on Saturday evening. The result extends a poor run for the home side, who had already lost two consecutive matches before this one. The Rock, by contrast, built on their recent victory over the Bulldogs with a dominant display.
The Rock played the second half a man up in terms of momentum, though the final score tells a different story than what either side might have expected at the interval. The away end never stopped making their presence felt from the opening whistle. The Marauders refused to go away, but the gap grew wider with each quarter.
Looking at recent form, the Marauders' last three matches paint a difficult picture. They lost 17:40 to the Vulcanis on September 12th, then fell 21:24 against the Pioneers three days earlier. The Rock's only available result shows a 45:43 win over the Bulldogs on August 27th, suggesting they carry confidence into this fixture.
The scoreline leaves the Marauders with plenty of work to do if they want to salvage their campaign. The Rock have the deeper squad and looked comfortable stretching the home side at will. This isn't the kind of result that sits well with supporters, but it's one they'll need to move past quickly.
What matters now is how both sides respond. The Marauders must tighten things up if they're to avoid further damage to their standing. The Rock will be looking to build on this performance and see if they can keep the momentum going.
