Charles Ariel Vélez Plaza

Charles Ariel Vélez Plaza has built his career. He came through the Liga de Guayaquil youth ranks before joining the Academia Alfaro Moreno academy, where he made his professional debut in 2009. What followed was a series of brief spells at Macará, Pelileo Sporting Club, Bolívar, Deportivo Puyo and Cumanda, none lasting more than a season or two.

He then joined Técnico Universitario, where Vélez spent four years, scoring 16 goals in 148 appearances. He was part of the squad that won the Serie B de Ecuador in 2017 and secured promotion to the top flight, and his best individual season came in 2019, when he scored 9 goals in all competitions for the club.

A move to Delfín S.C. in 2020 followed. He reached the final of the Supercopa de Ecuador that year and played in the Copa Libertadores, helping the team reach the Round of 16, as well as in the Copa Sudamericana.

In March 2026, Vélez arrived at Leones del Norte as a free agent from El Nacional and has made 16 appearances since. Across his career he has scored 32 goals in club football, though he has never been called up to the Ecuador national team at senior or youth level.
