About the player
Fidel Ambríz made his professional debut for León in November 2019 at 16, becoming the second-youngest player in the club's history, and went on to captain the first team before leaving for Monterrey. At León he made 92 Liga MX appearances, scoring seven goals, and added eight CONCACAF Champions League appearances with a further goal. He won the Apertura 2021 league title, the 2021 Leagues Cup and the 2023 CONCACAF Champions Cup.
In August 2024 Monterrey signed him for a reported fee of around €6.7 million on a contract running until 2029, and he has since worn the number 5 shirt for the club. Since the move he has made 30 Liga MX appearances and two in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, scoring once.
Ambríz has also been a regular at youth level for Mexico, representing the U-20 and U-23 sides. He won gold at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games and bronze at the 2023 Pan American Games. His senior debut came on 31 May 2024 against Bolivia, when he came on as a substitute in a 1-0 win.
