About the player
Luis Enrique Benítes Vargas made his name at Sport Huancayo, where the 2022 season turned him into the Peruvian Primera División's top scorer, with 19 goals in 35 matches. That season remains the clearest marker of what he can do in front of goal.
His path there was not a straight one. Benítes started out in the lower divisions with Defensor La Bocana, winning the Copa Perú and earning promotion to the top flight through the club. From there he moved through Alianza Atlético, Atlético Grau and Carlos Mannucci before the breakthrough years at Sport Huancayo between 2021 and 2024.
The goals in Huancayo brought talk of a first call-up to the Peru national team, though that recognition has not yet translated into a senior cap. In 2025 he joined Cienciano, making his debut for the club in February of that year, before a further move to Deportiva Tarma. He made his ADT debut on 2 February 2026 against Universitario, and scored his first goals for the club three weeks later, against UTC on 22 February.
At 165 cm, Benítes is one of the smaller forwards in the league. His number has shifted between clubs.
