About the player
Ocampos arrived at Monterrey in September 2024 on a contract running to June 2027. He started out at River Plate, where he was part of the squad that won promotion back to the Primera División, before Monaco paid around €11 million for him in August 2012. Three seasons in Ligue 1 with Monaco led to a move to Marseille, first on loan and then permanently for €7.5 million, with spells away at Genoa and AC Milan along the way.
Sevilla signed him in July 2019 for a reported €15 million, and it was there that Ocampos built the best-known part of his career. He won the UEFA Europa League twice with the club, in 2019–20 and again in 2022–23. In the 2020 final he started and played 77 minutes as Sevilla beat Inter Milan 3-2. A loan to Ajax in the first half of the 2022–23 season was cut short and ended in January 2023, and he returned to Sevilla before eventually leaving for Mexico.
At international level, Ocampos has earned 12 caps for Argentina, scoring twice against Germany in a pair of friendlies in 2019. He has not been part of the squads for the 2021 or 2024 Copa América, nor for the 2022 World Cup.
