About the player
Óscar García came up through León's own academy, joining the club's youth ranks in 2016 and working his way from the Sub-15 side through to the Sub-23 category. He has never played for another club. He made his Liga MX debut on 19 July 2025 under coach Eduardo Berizzo.
The breakthrough came the following season. By the Clausura 2026 tournament, with Nacho Ambriz now in charge, García had established himself as León's starting goalkeeper, having made around 17 league appearances between the Apertura 2025 and Clausura 2026 campaigns. Against Monterrey he was rated 8.8 by Sofascore for his performance.
García was part of the León squad that won the 2023 CONCACAF Champions Cup, though at 20 years old he was not the club's first-choice goalkeeper at the time, with Nahuel Guzmán holding that role.
On 28 April, national team coach Javier Aguirre called him up to the Mexico senior squad for the first time, and García joined a training camp at the FMF's High Performance Center from 6 May as a sparring goalkeeper in the build-up to the World Cup. He had not previously featured for any of Mexico's youth national teams.
