Ricardo Chávez Soto

Ricardo Chávez Soto's route into Liga MX ran through loan spells and lower-division sides rather than a smooth academy graduation. He signed his first professional contract with Tigres UANL but never made a league appearance for the club, and was instead sent out on loan to Correcaminos UAT and then Cimarrones de Sonora, where he found regular first-team football for the first time.

A permanent transfer to FC Juárez in 2018 gave him his first sustained run in the top flight, and a subsequent move to Necaxa in 2019 kept him playing regularly. It was at Atlético San Luis, where he arrived at the start of 2021, that he became an established name, staying four seasons and making well over a hundred appearances at right-back.

That form led Monterrey to sign him in January 2025 for a reported fee of around six million dollars, the largest transfer of his career, on a contract running to the end of 2027.

Chávez earned his first senior call-up to the Mexico national team on the back of his club form, making his debut on 16 December 2023 in a friendly against Colombia that ended in a 2-1 defeat. He had come through the Mexican youth ranks at Under-18 and Under-20 level. His sole major honour to date dates back to his time at Tigres, with whom he won the Copa MX in the 2014 Clausura.
