Simon Escobar

Simón Escobar came through the Vélez Sarsfield academy, despite rumours at one point linking him to Boca Juniors. He made his senior debut for Vélez on 27 January 2026 against Talleres de Córdoba, starting and playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 win, and followed it with another full appearance in a 1-1 draw against Newell's Old Boys in May.

It is with Argentina's youth sides that Escobar has made his clearest mark. He also captained the side at the CONMEBOL U-17 Championship, where Argentina finished as runners-up. Across his time with the U17 side he has earned around ten caps, with a goal and two assists to his name.

That form earned him an invitation to train with the senior national team, where he shared a session with Lionel Messi, and he took a place on the bench for a friendly against Honduras. He has not yet made his senior international debut. A left-footed left-back, Escobar plays for Vélez under a contract set to run until December 2027.
