Yoane Wissa

Yoane Wissa's departure from Brentford ended with him as the club's all-time top scorer in the Premier League, having overtaken Ivan Toney's total in January 2025 with 37 league goals for the Bees. Before that, though, his career had already taken a winding route through French football. He started out at Épinay-sous-Sénart and moved through Linas-Montlhéry before joining LB Châteauroux, breaking into the first team.

Lorient gave him his platform. Signed in January 2018, he scored 35 goals in 117 league appearances, and won the Ligue 2 title with the club in 2019-20, a season in which he was also named Ligue 2 Player of the Month. That form took him to Brentford in August 2021 for a reported £8.5 million: 45 goals in 137 league appearances and a place in Brentford's history books. There were individual honours along the way too, including a EFL Cup Goal of the Tournament award.

Internationally, Wissa plays for DR Congo, and he was named in the Team of the Tournament at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. He helped his country reach the 2026 World Cup through the play-off against Jamaica, and once there he made an immediate mark, scoring DR Congo's first goal of the tournament in the 21st century against Portugal before adding a brace against Uzbekistan, becoming only the fourth African player to score three goals in a single World Cup group stage.
