The franchise now plays in Washington as the Commanders. The Braves name lasted one season, 1932, and the team never used it again.

It entered the National Football League that year as an expansion side. Boston had been without an NFL team since the Bulldogs folded in 1929, so there was no local rival to measure it against. The owner was George Preston Marshall, who also ran the Palace Laundry business. The team took its blue and gold from the laundry's branding and its name from the baseball Braves, whose ground, Braves Field, it shared. The season ended 4–4–2.

Marshall made changes almost at once. For 1933 he renamed the team the Redskins, moved its games across the city to Fenway Park, the Red Sox's ground, and swapped blue for burgundy. In 1937 he took the franchise to Washington, D.C. The Braves won nothing under that name, and the only trace of them in the record is that single season.

The 1932 roster included Cliff Battles, later elected to the Hall of Fame, and Marshall signed the tackle Turk Edwards, another future Hall of Famer.
